“The most unreasoning and effective opposition to Wiener’s legislation has always emanated from affluent urban and suburban neighborhoods that haven’t been accommodating the state’s growth for decades and certainly don’t want to start now. It’s those opponents who have repeatedly blocked SB50 and, so far, kept Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Democratic legislative leadership from lending their full-throated support. Here’s hoping California and its leaders have finally had enough of the ruinous consequences.”
