Our Mission

California YIMBY

California YIMBY’s mission is to make California an affordable place to live, work, and raise a family. Our vision is of a California where neighbors welcome new neighbors of all backgrounds, and current residents are not displaced from their communities.

California YIMBY’s research and education teams identify best practices and proven solutions in housing policy that can end California’s housing shortage and affordability crisis. Our legislative and advocacy teams work with state legislators, allies and partners, and grassroots activists to turn these policies into state housing legislation.

There are many other YIMBY organizations that do similar work. In California, we collaborate closely with YIMBY partner organizations, like YIMBY Action and YIMBY Law; these groups have their own governance and leadership, and while we share overlapping goals and values, we have distinct advocacy platforms and priorities.

Our Focus

Advocacy

Our legislative team advocates for our organization’s legislative solutions and policy priorities in the state capitol:

Policy Development

An equitable California begins with abundant, secure, affordable housing. We focus on developing state-level housing and land use policy to arm legislators and decision-makers with the levers and tools that will accelerate home building.

Ned Resnikoff

Policy Director

We are fortunate to be a part of a fast-growing ecosystem of pro-housing and YIMBY organizations in California, such as YIMBY Action, YIMBY Law, and local YIMBY chapters. We work closely with local and state YIMBY groups and other coalition partners to put California on a path to creating vibrant, livable, and inclusive communities for everyone.
