Thank Governor Newsom & YIMBY Legislators

October 10, 2019

Hello YIMBYs! There’s been a lot to celebrate this week!

With the Governor’s signature on AB 68, AB 881, AB 1482, SB 13, and SB 330, California becomes the first state in the nation to couple robust rent caps and tenant protections (AB 1482) with the de-facto elimination of single-family zoning throughout the state (AB 68).

Taken together, these bills are a historic housing package that will help cities overcome NIMBYism and allow the construction of more homes, while also ensuring that renters can remain in their communities as they grow.

One of our favorite Bay Area YIMBYs, artist/activist Alfred Twu, put together this amazing illustration to celebrate:

This victory would not have been possible without YOU, our movement partners, and the legislators who wrote and advocated for these bills. Let’s make sure everyone knows how big of a deal this is — sign our thank you card today.

This progress is worth celebrating, but we have more work to do tackle the root cause of our housing crisis: the 3.5 million home shortage.

That’s why we’re dedicated to passing comprehensive reforms like the More HOMES Act (SB 50) and have joined the Schools and Communities First Initiative to close unfair tax loopholes for large corporations.

Signing this thank you card will send a signal to Sacramento that the YIMBY movement is willing to work with everyone on common-sense solutions and help us grow the support we’ll need to pass SB 50 next year and tackle the root causes of the housing crisis.

We couldn’t have achieved these victories without you.
