September 19, 2024

Bill Closes Loopholes for Multi-Family Housing Statewide

“This is some of the most important housing legislation of the year”

Today California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB 450, a bill that strengthens existing state law designed to encourage the development of duplexes and fourplexes throughout the state. Authored by Senator Toni Atkins (San Diego) and strongly supported by California YIMBY, the bill further advances California’s efforts to end the housing shortage and affordability crisis.

California YIMBY CEO Brian Hanlon offered the following statement in response to the Governor’s signature:

“California’s elected state officials have been leading the way on the reforms we need to build more homes, and today Governor Gavin Newsom extended that lead. We want to thank both the Governor for his ongoing commitment to housing abundance and affordability, and to Sen. Toni Atkins for her leadership in shepherding SB 450 through the legislature. It’s time to build more homes.”
