We all know the rent is too damn high.

In California, we’ve grown accustomed to housing shortages, crushing rents, endless commutes, escalating homelessness, destruction of agricultural lands, and the worst air pollution in the United States. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We can end the housing crisis when we organize, raise our voices for change, and demand that our government legalize more homes.

To help inspire you, and to inform your friends and neighbors about California’s intentional housing shortage, we’ve produced a beautiful new animated video about Gabriella — an everyday Californian struggling with the high cost of housing. Through Gabriella’s story, we explore the racist and discriminatory roots of California’s housing shortage, and what we can do to fix it.

If you’re fired up about the fight for more housing, consider volunteering with California YIMBY. Together, we can end the housing shortage and affordability crisis — and build a California where everyone can afford to live, work, and raise a family.
