About the Organization

California YIMBY is a statewide housing advocacy organization dedicated to ending the housing shortage and making California an affordable place for everyone to live, work, and raise a family. California YIMBY is not a traditional non-profit: we reject the policy and political status quo and work to realize fundamental evidence-based change to California’s housing policies, which would benefit tens of millions of people. Founded in 2017, California YIMBY has redefined the national housing debate by proposing transformative state-level housing policy and helping draft and pass dozens of bills that break down exclusionary barriers and will enable millions of new homes to be built.

Position Overview

California YIMBY is seeking a passionate, people-centered Community Impact Intern to support our work building a more affordable and sustainable housing future in California. This internship offers hands-on experience in grassroots organizing, coalition building, political and communications strategy, and volunteer engagement for a statewide movement.

The Community Impact Intern will play a key role in strengthening and expanding our network of partners and engaging new advocates. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to a growing movement while developing real-world advocacy and organizing skills.

Key Responsibilities / Scope of Work

Support the growth and management of California YIMBY’s partner network by onboarding new partners, tracking partnership agreements, and maintaining
up-to-date records with district-specific and organizational information.

Assist in planning and executing community engagement efforts, including webinars, trainings, and local events that activate advocates and build grassroots power. Help recruit, coordinate, and mobilize volunteers for political organizing, including canvassing and rapid-response actions. Support volunteer onboarding, track engagement, and help create pathways for volunteers to take on leadership roles within the movement.

Take a lead role in managing the California YIMBY events newsletter. Contribute to coalition-building efforts by supporting outreach to aligned organizations and
helping strengthen relationships across the housing and transit-oriented development space. Provide administrative and programmatic support across community impact initiatives, and take on additional projects as assigned to advance California YIMBY’s mission.

Assist the political department as needed with endorsement procedure, candidate communications, and administrative tasks.
