California YIMBY Statement on Senate Passage of SB 902

Today California YIMBY released the following statement on the passage of Senator Scott Wiener’s SB 902:

“With the passage of SB 902 through the State Senate today, Senator Scott Wiener continues to be among our state’s strongest champions of ending the housing shortage and building a California for everyone,” said Brian Hanlon, President and CEO of California YIMBY. “SB 902 lets cities quickly change the zoning for ‘mom and pop’ apartment buildings. Cities will still maintain control of their zoning, but pro-housing city leaders can use SB 902 to streamline rezonings  for urgently-needed small apartments. If SB 902 becomes law, it would be among the most powerful tools cities have to increase the number of affordable homes in our cities.”

“As always, we are grateful to Sen. Wiener for his leadership and vision on housing, and are proud to co-sponsor this bill with Habitat for Humanity California.”
