Sacramento — California YIMBY co-founder and CEO Brian Hanlon released the following statement regarding the set of housing bills introduced in the Senate today:
“The initial set of housing bills announced today by Senate Pro Tem Atkins sets the stage for the reforms Californians urgently need to solve our dire housing crisis. The ongoing housing shortage and affordability crisis in California is a direct result of current state and local policies and it has only worsened as the COVID-19 pandemic devastates lives and livelihoods.
We look forward to working with legislative leadership to support these important bills, as well the many other housing and land use reforms that must pass this session. This includes making it legal to build more multi-family homes; reversing the impacts of decades of deliberately racist housing policies; protecting and empowering vulnerable tenants; cutting red tape to make housing more affordable; and putting homeownership within reach for more Californians.”
