California YIMBY statement on Governor Newsom’s budget priorities
Governor Newsom’s proposed spending priorities make it clear he shares YIMBYs’ commitment to efficient public transportation, subsidized housing, homeless shelters, and expediting voter-approved funds for these essential services. We are encouraged by his historic $1.3 billion increase in funding for planning and housing, his recognition of the need for more housing near transit, and his desire to address the roadblocks local governments erect for housing at all ends of the income spectrum — including both affordable and market-rate housing.
California YIMBY believes the housing crisis is impacting everyone, and we should craft solutions accordingly. We commit to working with the Governor and his administration to make sure that these goals are accomplished through the budget and other regulatory and legislative fixes, such as the SB 50 — the More HOMES Act
