Statement on Senate Appropriations Passage of AB 2097
More Homes for People, Fewer Costly Parking Mandates
“California has a housing shortage, not a parking shortage”
SACRAMENTO – Today, California YIMBY released the following statement about the passage of AB 2097 in the Senate Appropriations Committee:
“California has a severe housing shortage, not a parking shortage,” said Brian Hanlon, CEO of California YIMBY. “AB 2097 is a historic piece of legislation – it’s a vital first step toward making sure we prioritize affordable housing for people above the costly and environmentally harmful parking mandates that govern homebuilding in most of our cities.
“California YIMBY extends its deep gratitude to Senator Anthony Portantino for advancing this vital legislation to the floor of the Senate for a vote; we also want to thank Assemblymember Laura Friedman for her leadership in authoring this legislation, and our partners with SPUR, the Council of Infill Builders, Abundant Housing LA, and the Bay Area Council.”
