Ending the Student Housing Crisis on Campus

“Our students deserve better – and help is on the way”

SACRAMENTO – Today, California YIMBY released the following statement about the passage of SB 886 through the Assembly Appropriations Committee:

“SB 886 is a long overdue measure that will allow our state universities to catch up to the massive student and faculty housing shortage on their campuses,” said Brian Hanlon, CEO of California YIMBY. “The students at the University of California and California State University are the future of our state – and we’ve been failing them for too long. These students, and many of the faculty members who support them, are experiencing high levels of homelessness, housing insecurity, and rent burden. Removing impediments to student and faculty housing is an urgent priority, and we’re thankful to Sen. Scott Wiener for his leadership on this important legislation.”
